Hyundai Motor Company and Kia have launched an industrial wearable, the “Exoskeleton Shoulder,” a wearable robot. This is the first product created for commercialization under Hyundai Motor and Kia’s wearable robot brand “Exoskeleton.” It is designed to support upper arm strength in tasks that require lifting the arms, with a focus on shoulders and elbows.
The most notable feature of the Exoskeleton Shoulder is that it operates without an electric motor, thus functioning without power. When worn, it reduces shoulder joint load by up to 60% and frontal/lateral deltoid muscle activation by up to 30%.
Hyundai and Kia expect that the widespread use of the Exoskeleton Shoulder across industries will help in preventing musculoskeletal disorders among workers.
