Jeong Seong-ho: “Kim Dong-yeon is concerned about Lee Jae-myung’s trial… He said he would stand with the party.”

“Reports claiming that Kim Dong-yeon is the focal point of the ‘non-Lee faction’ are completely untrue.”

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Seol Seung-eun: On the 26th, Representative Jeong Seong-ho of the Democratic Party stated, “Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province expressed a lot of concern about Lee Jae-myung’s trial and said that he will stand with the representative and the party.”

Jeong, who is known as the leader of the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction, mentioned in an MBC radio interview that when he suggested to Governor Kim the previous day that “it would be best to proceed together with the party,” Kim responded affirmatively.

Representative Jeong, who represents the Dongducheon-Yangju-Yeoncheon constituency in Gyeonggi Province, had met with Governor Kim at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office to discuss local budgets and other matters with local city council members.

Jeong commented, “There are many reports attempting to characterize Governor Kim as the focal point of the non-Lee faction or as a ‘Plan B’ leader, aiming to create division,” and added, “Governor Kim himself stated that such reports are completely false.”

He also addressed the notion that the ‘New Three Kims’ of the non-Lee faction (Governor Kim, former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, and former Governor Kim Kyung-soo) are being highlighted as alternatives to Lee’s leadership, saying, “They do not have such thoughts, and all three are very concerned about Lee’s trial and wish for a favorable outcome.”

Jeong further emphasized, “Among many supporters, party members, and national assembly members, there is a widespread consensus that, given the severe incompetence and reckless actions of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, the party must respond swiftly and cohesively centered around the party leader.”
