“I came from Gyeonggi-do”.. What’s going on with the ‘crowd’ in Busan?

The G-Star 2024 event, celebrating its 20th anniversary, attracted large crowds despite coinciding with South Korea’s college entrance exam day, held at BEXCO in Busan. Attendees ranged from high school students who visited the expo to see games like “Kazan” and “Red Desert” to parents bringing their children. The event offered an array of attractions, from AI-powered game experiences to cosplay.

One popular attraction was the outdoor booth by Krafton’s subsidiary, Rellu Games, featuring an AI game called “Magical Girl Kawaii Lovely Zkyun Dokyun Vakyung Byung Lu Lu Ping.” This game utilized AI voice recognition, allowing players to cast magic spells by voice, with AI analyzing emotions and pitch to perform attacks. Visitors, including a mother and her sons, were drawn to the vibrant magic spells echoing through the area.

Cosplayers added color to the event by dressing up as characters from medieval knights to Spider-Man. One Spider-Man cosplayer was seen playfully posing with elementary school students.

The main exhibition hall, B2C, was packed with visitors eager to see the offerings from major game companies. Nexon’s booth attracted the largest crowd, with demonstrations of four new games: the MOBA Battle Royale “Supervibe,” the 3D action RPG “Project Overkill,” the hardcore action RPG “First Berserker: Kazan,” and the casual RPG “Hwansechwihojeon Online.”

Netmarble’s booth was also crowded, showcasing games like “Monster Taming: Star Dive” and “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad.” The booth featured a replica of the Iron Throne and played the iconic soundtrack, drawing fans eager to try the games.

Krafton’s booth was themed like a forest, introducing their new multi-platform survival RPG “Ding Come Together,” along with rhythm action game “FyFy Rush,” top-down military tactical shooter “Project Ark,” and life simulation “Enjoy.”

Pearl Abyss showcased “Red Desert,” a large-scale new game, inviting visitors to experience battles and boss fights. The game featured content with 4 different bosses, including one newly added since the Gamescom event in Germany.

Webzen’s booth featured “Dragon Sword” and subculture collecting RPG “Tervys,” unveiling “Dragon Sword” for the first time at the event. Hive IM introduced its first AAA title “Architect: Land of Exile.” Gravity featured 17 titles across mobile, PC, and console platforms, including the latest in its flagship IP, “Ragnarok,” with “Ragnarok 3,” MMORPG “Project Abyss,” and puzzle tower defense game “Ragnarok Crush.”
