[Jinju=Newsis] Reporter Jeong Kyung-kyu: The Jinju Fire Department in South Gyeongsang Province announced that, starting from December 1st, the mandate for installing fire extinguishers in vehicles will be expanded. They urged vehicle owners to ensure that fire extinguishers are placed in their cars.
Following the full enforcement of the “Act on the Installation and Maintenance of Firefighting Facilities,” which mandates the placement of fire extinguishers in vehicles, all passenger cars with more than five seats must have a vehicle fire extinguisher installed or placed. This regulation also applies to newly manufactured, imported, or sold cars and vehicles registered due to ownership changes.
Vehicle fire extinguishers can be purchased at supermarkets or online. However, it is essential to purchase ones marked specifically for automobile use and with capacity units that match vehicle specifications, rather than general-use powder extinguishers. They should be placed within easy reach of the driver for quick use in case of emergencies.
Jinju Fire Chief Jo Hyeong-yong stated, “Vehicle fires can occur for various reasons, such as engine overheating or traffic accidents, regardless of the number of passengers. We hope that by having fire extinguishers in vehicles, injuries and property damage caused by fires can be minimized, ensuring safety.”
