There was a service disruption on national court websites due to a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on the afternoon of the 7th, causing inconvenience to users. The Court Administration Office announced on the 8th that they are maintaining a defensive posture to block the DDoS attack, while cooperating with the National Investigation Agency and the National Intelligence Service to identify those responsible.
A DDoS attack is a type of cyberattack in which multiple devices are used to generate massive traffic to disable a website or online service.
The Court Administration Office and investigative authorities suspect that the pro-Russian hacker group “NoName” may be behind this DDoS attack. An official stated that addresses of the Supreme Court’s partial homepage, district courts’ websites, and e-litigation homepage were found on a dark web site associated with Russian hackers, which matches the websites that experienced connectivity issues yesterday.
The court has declared this as the first large-scale attack of the year, continuously maintaining a defensive posture since the attack was detected at 3:21 PM the previous day, and preparing for any additional attacks.
On the 5th, the Ministry of National Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Ministry of Environment, National Information Resources Service under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the People Power Party’s website were all targeted in DDoS attacks.
At that time, the Ministry of Science and ICT suspected that a single pro-Russian hacking group was responsible for the attacks.
