Korea Culture and Information Service Successfully Concludes ‘Cultural, Sports and Tourism Digital Innovation Forum 2024’

The “2024 Culture, Sports, and Tourism Digital Innovation Forum,” hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and organized by the Korea Culture Information Service Agency (KOCIS), was held on the 7th. This forum provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the latest digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence, and their convergence across various fields, along with offering diverse attractions to the audience.

In Part 1, the Cultural Digital Innovation and Cultural Data Utilization Contest awards ceremony was held. Following this, author Song Gil-young delivered a keynote speech on “The Communication of Culture and Data Technology in the AI Era,” engaging with the audience about the potential to create new cultural values by fostering synergy between digital technology and culture in the AI era.

Part 2 featured expert discussions on digital innovation technology in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism, divided into Tracks A, B, and C.

Track A focused on “The Direction of Enjoying Culture and Protecting Copyright Based on Digital Innovation.” During the first session organized by KOCIS, experts from both the public and private sectors, including Shin Shin-ae, Director of the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency, and Lee Kwon-soo, Director of KOCIS, discussed the distortion of Korean images by generative AI and proposed countermeasures. The second session, hosted by the Korea Copyright Protection Agency, offered lectures and discussions on “The Development Direction of Copyright Digital Forensics.”

Track B centered around “Smart Experiences in AI-Based Sports and Tourism Industries.” In the first session, Kim Il-joon, Team Leader of the Digital Innovation Team at the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, led experts in showcasing AI technology application cases in the sports field. The second session featured presentations and Q&A on the changes in the tourism industry leveraging AI, with participants including Lee Seong-hyun, CSO of Yanolja Platform, Park Ki-chul, Director of Bespin Global, and Lee Jung-soo, CEO of Flitto.

Track C explored “The Future of Artistic Creation and Content Industry with AI,” with Professor Park Joo-yong from the Graduate School of Cultural Technology discussing “The Post-AI Era Art and Cultural Physics Perspective,” followed by discussions on the singularity of artistic creation. The second session focused on the status and vision of the digital content industry, with presentations and discussions from Choi In-ho, CEO of D-Carrick, Jeon Woo-yeol, CEO of VentaVR, Jun Jin-soo, corporate advisor and investment partner, and Kim Kyung-mo, Head of Human ICT Interdisciplinary Department at Konkuk University.

At the event venue, promotional booths showcased the digital innovation cases from various co-hosting organizations. KOCIS demonstrated their AI docent robot “QAI,” along with VR experiences of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and sword fighting game. The Korea Sports Promotion Foundation exhibited AI-driven sports administration innovations, and the Korea Tourism Organization operated a booth presenting its leading digital platforms. The Arts Council Korea displayed digital art experiences and archives, presenting the creative worlds of artists. The Korea Creative Content Agency offered an experience space for the augmented reality indoor play platform “Didim” and the wheelchair exercise equipment “WheelX,” both of which received excellence awards in the competition, providing attendees with a first-hand experience of various digital technologies being pursued in the culture, sports, and tourism sectors.

Jung Un-hyun, Director of KOCIS, stated, “This forum has been meaningful in sharing the outcomes and directions of digital innovation across various fields such as culture, arts, sports, tourism, content, and copyright. We will continue to contribute to the technological advancement and creation of new values in the cultural industry, actively supporting a rich cultural experience for the public through the latest digital technologies like AI.”
