[Sports Korea Reporter Lee Yumin] The script reading scene for the drama ‘Namib’ featuring Go Hyun-jung, Ryeo-un, Yoon Sang-hyun, and Lee Jin-woo has become a hot topic.
On the 7th, KT Studio Genie released photos of the script reading session for Genie TV’s original drama ‘Namib’ (written by Eom Seong-min, directed by Han Sang-jae and Kang Min-gu, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by SLL and Studio Woo Young-soo).
Scheduled to premiere on Monday, December 23, ‘Namib’ follows the story of Kang Soo-hyun (played by Go Hyun-jung), a star producer who has been fired, and Yoo Jin-woo (played by Ryeo-un), a long-term trainee who has been released. Together they pursue their respective goals.
The return of the unrivaled queen Go Hyun-jung (as Kang Soo-hyun), alongside rising star Ryeo-un (as Yoo Jin-woo), the versatile Yoon Sang-hyun (as Shim Joon-seok), and emerging youth star Lee Jin-woo (as Shim Jin-woo), is capturing everyone’s attention. With a cast that appeals across generations, viewers are curious about the ensemble these actors will create, akin to the meeting of the desert and the sea signified in the title ‘Namib’. The recently revealed script reading session, full of the actors’ passion, has drawn significant attention.
At the script reading, the actors greeted their colleagues warmly, setting a cordial atmosphere. Once the reading began, they deeply immersed themselves in their characters and scripts. Playing Kang Soo-hyun, the star producer, Go Hyun-jung naturally expressed the diverse aspects of the character, who behaves differently at work and at home, driving the drama forward. By coordinating with the staff on even the smallest details, she heightened expectations for her transformation.
Ryeo-un, portraying Yoo Jin-woo, a trainee with clear talent yet lacking self-confidence, infused his lines with the character’s inner thoughts. To portray the idol trainee character, he added detailed gestures like playing the guitar and holding a microphone throughout the reading, injecting vitality into the role.
Yoon Sang-hyun, acting as Kang Soo-hyun’s husband and a former music producer, added vibrancy to the session with his trademark life-like acting. In scenes involving music, he demonstrated a professional side by closing his eyes and moving to the rhythm. Lee Jin-woo, portraying their son Shim Jin-woo, a character with a hearing impairment, faithfully represented the character by matching his lines to the lip movements of co-actors during the session.
A particular highlight was the acting synergy between mentor and mentee, Go Hyun-jung and Ryeo-un, who tread the same path with different goals. In scenes of conflict and reconciliation, the two actors maintained eye contact and adjusted intensity, showcasing strong teamwork. Additionally, the dynamic back-and-forth between Go Hyun-jung, Yoon Sang-hyun, and Lee Jin-woo, who form a family with different dreams, elicited genuine empathy and engagement from everyone.
Through such a script reading, marked by the actors’ synergy and attention to detail, ‘Namib’ is off to a promising start. Viewers eagerly anticipate the beautiful harmony of the four actors uniting like the dramatic meeting of the desert and the sea in ‘Namib’.
Meanwhile, having kicked off its journey with the script reading, Genie TV’s original drama ‘Namib’ will air at 10 PM on Monday, December 23 on Genie TV, Genie TV Mobile, and ENA.
