Seoul Expands Partnership Support Project for Low-Income Households… Approximately 120,000 Items Donated Over 10 Years

Participating Hotels Increase from 12 to 24, Job Creation Plans Also Discussed

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Yoon Bo-ram = The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 4th that it will expand a project that supports the improvement of living environments for vulnerable groups with the support of luxury hotels.

The city signed the “Seoul Metropolitan Government & Luxury Hotel Low-Income Household Partnership Support Project Agreement” at City Hall, with Deputy Mayor Kim Sang-han, representatives from 24 luxury hotels, and Yoo Yong-jong, the President of the Korea Hotel Association, in attendance.

Since 2015, the city has partnered with 14 luxury hotels in Seoul to donate hotel replacement items to facilities and homes for vulnerable groups.

Up until September of this year, 14 hotels have donated a total of 178,859 items including furniture, bedding, appliances, kitchenware, and hygiene products, distributing 117,649 of them to 2,223 locations such as homeless facilities, small rooms, public rental, and supportive housing.

With the new agreement, the participating hotels have increased to 24.

These 24 hotels will donate hotel items that are replaced during renovations to the city, which will then support household goods and supplies for housing-vulnerable low-income residents in homeless shelters, child and youth centers, senior and single-parent welfare facilities, local self-sufficiency centers, comprehensive social welfare centers, and small rooms and rental housing.

Organizations and institutions like welfare facilities that wish to receive hotel replacement items can check the donation status and apply for distribution via the Seoul Salvation Army Hotel Supplies Recycling Center website (https://www.sahrcenter.or.kr).

The city and the 24 hotels also plan to discuss job support measures according to the work capabilities of low-income groups.

Deputy Mayor Kim said, “We express our respect and gratitude to the 24 hotels for their heartfelt support beyond corporate social responsibility to help create a better Seoul,” and added, “We will strive to create a society where everyone lives together.”
