The government urges, “Please participate in the ruling and opposition parties’ council… Strive to normalize healthcare.”

The government has urged the medical community to participate in the bipartisan legislative council and work together to normalize the medical sector.

Ihan Gyeong, the head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated this during the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting today (31st) at the Sejong Government Complex concerning the doctors’ collective actions.

Director Ihan emphasized, “The government has consistently urged the medical community to engage in dialogue to resolve the medical vacuum and complete medical reforms.” He added, “On the 22nd, the Korean Medical Association and the Korean Association of Medical Colleges and Graduate Schools expressed their intention to join the bipartisan legislative consultative body.”

He further stressed, “We ask other medical groups, such as the Korean Medical Association, residents, and professors’ organizations, to participate in the council and strive together for the normalization of the medical sector.”

Additionally, he announced, “This week, ten advanced general hospitals were additionally selected through the second selection evaluation of the ‘Advanced General Hospital Structural Transition Support Project.’ Cooperation between large regional hospitals and small hospitals is expected to lay the foundation for establishing an efficient treatment system for severe, emergency, and rare diseases, as well as a regional comprehensive healthcare system.”

Moreover, he emphasized, “The medical community is standing at the threshold of change, and the role of residents is crucial.” He expressed hope that “the government and residents can reach a wise conclusion through open discussions for the future of the public, patients, and, most importantly, the residents themselves.”
