“Portable Ramp Distribution” Kia’s ‘Welcome Wheel Campaign’, Supporting Transportation for People with Mobility Challenges

Kia announced on the 30th that it is conducting the ‘Welcome Wheel Campaign,’ aimed at improving mobility and accessibility for the transportation disadvantaged. The Welcome Wheel Campaign is a project to distribute ultra-light portable ramps to small shops with doorsteps that make access difficult. It is designed to alleviate the everyday inconveniences faced by wheelchair users and guardians with strollers.

Now in its second year, following its launch last year, the Welcome Wheel Campaign started with the installation of the first ramp in Dongdaemun District and has since distributed 138 portable ramps in areas such as Eunpyeong District, Dongjak District, and at various welfare centers for people with disabilities.

By the end of this year, a total of 112 additional portable ramps will be installed, with 28 ramps in each district of Gangseo, Nowon, Seodaemun, and Jongno in Seoul, bringing the total to 250 ramps distributed.

Visitors requiring a portable ramp can use it easily by contacting the phone number listed on a plaque or by signaling their intention to use via a help bell.

Starting this month, various welfare centers have enhanced user convenience by providing information on ramp-installed shops and wheelchair-accessible locations through online and offline maps.

This campaign is particularly meaningful as a social contribution effort, thanks to Kia’s support and the participation of individual donors. In addition, organizations such as the Green Light Corporation, the Seoul Disabled Welfare Center Association, and each welfare center in Seoul have been directly delivering portable ramps and plaques and demonstrating their use, offering practical assistance.

A Kia representative stated, “We hope to contribute to overall social awareness improvement, not just the installation of ramps,” and added, “We will continue to engage in diverse and innovative social contribution activities, including mobility support for the disabled and the elderly.”
