In Celebration of Author Han Kang’s Nobel Literature Prize Win, Special Bookshelf Operated Until November

“In response to the fever surrounding Han Kang’s win, the Mohyeon Library in Iksan City, Jeollabuk-do Special Self-Governing Province, has organized a ‘special bookshelf’ where residents can read works of past Nobel Literature Prize winners in one place, earning praise from the community.”

“Mohyeon Library announced on the 24th that it would operate a ‘Special Bookshelf for Reading Past Nobel Literature Prize Works Together’ in the general reference room on the second floor until the end of next month.”

“This initiative includes a total of 82 titles and 111 books, such as this year’s winner, Han Kang’s works, including *Human Acts*, *The Vegetarian*, and *Greek Lessons*.”

“The works of 13 Nobel Literature Prize winners from 2012 to this year, including last year’s winner Jon Fosse and 2022 winner Annie Ernaux, are on display.”

“During this period, citizens can freely browse the exhibited books and also borrow them. The exhibition space includes information about the yearly selected Nobel Literature Prize authors, their representative works, and the reasons for their selection, allowing visitors to reflect on the authors’ literary worlds and the significance of the award.”

“Han Kang, the 121st Nobel Literature Prize winner, made history as the first female Asian writer to be inducted into the Nobel Literature Hall of Fame.”

“A representative from Mohyeon Library stated, ‘Since Han Kang’s Nobel Prize win, there’s been such a craze that citizens are seen waiting to borrow books even before the library opens. We hope this is a great opportunity for citizens to experience the works of various Nobel Literature Prize-winning authors.'”

“Meanwhile, the Nobel Literature Prize is awarded annually by the Swedish Academy to authors who have made outstanding contributions in literature. Since the first award in 1901, it has been given to 121 authors. This year, Han Kang became the first female Asian writer, as well as the first from Korea, to win the Nobel Literature Prize.”
