Hong Joon-pyo, the Mayor of Daegu, targeted Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, on the 24th by stating, “You need to understand that running a country with frivolous fussiness is not the way to bring stability,” emphasizing the need for steady governance.
On the morning of the same day, Mayor Hong expressed this sentiment on Facebook, stating, “Some members of the party leadership should deeply recognize that we are in a state of emergency and act with caution.”
The previous day, Mayor Hong had a private meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol at Yongsan Presidential Office. In political circles, it was speculated that during this unpublicized meeting, which took place two days after President Yoon and Leader Han’s ’81-minute meeting,’ discussions regarding the relationship between the party and the government took place.
Regarding this matter, Mayor Hong commented, “Yesterday’s meeting at the Yongsan Presidential Office was scheduled three weeks ago to report and discuss regional issues,” pointing out, “The meeting with the President should be a productive setting to resolve issues, not a platform for gossip or creating conflict.”
