“A member of the city council in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, has apologized regarding a school violence incident where their child was involved as a perpetrator.”

“Council member A from the People Power Party in Seongnam City Council issued an apology on the 17th, stating, ‘I sincerely bow my head in apology to the student and their family who were harmed,’ and added, ‘I am very sorry to the citizens as well.'”

“They explained, ‘The reason I haven’t publicly expressed my apology until now is because it was a very cautious situation before the education office’s school violence review committee was held, and I thought any public apology or statement would be inappropriate.'”

“They continued, ‘As a parent, I am largely responsible for not guiding my child properly,’ and promised, ‘We will make sure such an incident never occurs again. My child is also deeply reflecting on this matter, has apologized to the victim, and regrets the past and repents.'”

“According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, a report was received last July about a school violence incident in which four 6th grade students at an elementary school in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, forced another student to eat a mixture of snacks and sand at a park, and pressured them under the guise of a game penalty from April to June this year.”

“In response, the educational authorities conducted an investigation into the school and confirmed the facts of the school violence. Subsequently, a school violence countermeasures committee was convened recently, which resulted in a written apology and class transfer for two of the perpetrators. One student, who was less involved, received a written apology and 4 hours of school service, and the remaining student was required to submit a written apology.”
