‘Black and White Chef’ First Featured on ‘Imokase,’ Joins Stepping Stone Income Radio Campaign

On the 17th, the city of Seoul announced that Kim Mi-ryeong, who appeared in the Netflix variety show “Black and White Chef: Cooking Class War,” participated in the Seoul Bridge Income radio campaign. Kim, known as ‘Imokase No.1,’ became a prominent figure behind the popular ‘Imokase’ dining experience, a combination of Ajumma (aunt) and Omakase, while running a Korean restaurant in Seoul’s Dobong-gu. On the show, she stood out as the only female ‘black spoon’ chef to advance to the semifinals.

In the broadcast, Kim shared her challenging family background and demonstrated the noodles she made and sold to make a living. During the Bridge Income campaign, she expressed her happiness, saying, “The miraculous life that noodles brought me seems to be happening to Bridge Income recipients, and I hope Seoul continues developing policies that create miracles.”

Seoul city officials stated, “Kim resonated with the need for Bridge Income as a crucial policy for people like her in the past and expressed her intention to participate in the radio campaign.” Bridge Income is a Seoul-style income security policy experiment that provides a set monthly amount (up to 980,000 KRW for single-person households) for up to three years to low-income households earning 80% or less of the median income.

The campaign featuring Kim will be broadcast on radio channels like CBS starting on the 23rd. A behind-the-scenes video of the radio campaign recording and her comments will be available on Seoul’s YouTube channel.
