[Sports Chosun Reporter Kim So-hee] The two children of the late Shin Hae-chul expressed their longing for their father.
On the 16th episode of tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block,” the genius musician’s children, Shin Ha-yeon and Shin Dong-won, appeared and shared various stories.
Yoo Jae-suk was surprised to see the two and said, “I thought Hae-chul was coming in.”
Shin Ha-yeon introduced herself, saying, “I’m Shin Ha-yeon, 18 years old and in my senior year of high school,” while Shin Dong-won said, “I’m a freshman in high school.” Yoo Jae-suk, hearing this, was surprised again, saying, “Have they grown up this much already?” Shin Ha-yeon proudly mentioned that she recently received her ID card.
Shin Ha-yeon mentioned that due to her resemblance to her father, people recognize her as Shin Hae-chul’s daughter wherever she goes. She shared, “Fans often tell me, ‘Shin Hae-chul was my youth. I’m happy to meet you,’ with tears in their eyes,” and expressed gratitude toward her father’s fans. On the other hand, Shin Dong-won humorously noted, “Many people don’t recognize me because my sister looks so much like Dad, while I resemble our mother.”
Shin Dong-won, who decided to appear on the show to mark the 10th anniversary of his father’s passing, recalled, “I was 7 years old when we lost my father. I was really young, but I remember the moment clearly. My sister and I were playing with dolls in the living room when my mother told us, ‘Your father passed away.’ At that time, my sister and mother cried a lot, but I didn’t cry because I didn’t understand what death was at the age of 7.”
Shin Dong-won further shared, “As time passed and I grew up, I became curious about who my father was. I searched for him online and read articles. I felt it was unfair that I had to learn about him in this way instead of having conversations with him. It brought up various emotions and thoughts, and there have been many lessons learned from it.”
He also expressed, “I’ve only once told my mom that I miss Dad. I don’t usually mention it, because I know she misses him more than I do. But during a fight with her in my teens, I cried and said, ‘If Dad were here, we wouldn’t be fighting and we’d be happier.’ Mom didn’t respond at first, but later comforted me.”
Shin Ha-yeon also shared, “I’ll sometimes feel envious when I see fathers and daughters holding hands while riding bicycles, but I believe if I work hard, knowing my dad is watching, I won’t be ashamed when I see him again one day.”
She fondly remembered her father, “I used to sleep with Dad, and even though he snored loudly, he was kind, telling old stories and reading fairy tales. Seeing him act cute to Mom, I wondered why he only showed his cool side outside. It felt like something only I knew.”
The siblings then sang “Don’t Make a Sad Face” in tribute to their father, showcasing their inherited singing talents.
In closing, they each delivered a video letter to their father in heaven. Shin Dong-won said, “If you’re worried about us, rest assured we are doing well. Please take a good rest. I will live my life diligently.” Shin Ha-yeon smilingly said, “With fall here, I miss you even more and think of many things. Still, I’m finding and feeling happiness in this situation, so please don’t worry. I miss you.”
