First confirmation of ‘ritual traces’ found on the western wall of Pungnap Fortress… Excavated pottery and animal fluids

, ‘The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage stated today (15th) that, “As a result of the investigation of the restoration area of the west wall of Pungnap Fortress, traces of past ritual activities and a new technique of building the castle by the Baekje people during the Hanseong period have been confirmed.”‘,

, ‘In the survey results, three earthenware jars believed to be ritual pits were unearthed at the foundation layer of the west wall. A ritual pit is a symbol buried to ward off bad energy before building a structure.’,

, ‘Additionally, animal remains such as dog and young cattle bones were found at the site of the west gate, presumed to be offerings made during past rituals, according to the research institute.’,
