North Korea removed railway rails and sleepers on the Donghae Line in May. The South Korean military’s surveillance equipment captured the scene of North Korea preparing to detonate the Gyeongui Line and the Donghae Line roads.
On the 14th, a military source stated, “North Korean forces are engaged in activities suspected to be for the detonation of the inter-Korean connecting roads in the Gyeongui Line and Donghae Line areas following an announcement from the General Staff.”
Previously, the North Korean General Staff announced on the 9th that they would embark on construction work to cut off roads and railways in areas connected to South Korea and fortify them into solid defense fortifications.
Since last December, North Korea has been planting mines around the roads connecting the two Koreas, removing streetlights, and railways to disrupt land traffic. From April, they have been setting up barriers suspected to be anti-tank obstacles in the demilitarized zone, planting mines, and installing wire fences.
