A Japanese elementary school student was stabbed and injured while on their way to school in China, the Japanese government announced on the 18th. According to Moriya Hiroshi, the deputy spokesperson for the Japanese government, “One Japanese school student in Shandong Province, China, was attacked by a man this morning and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.”
Moriya added, “Chinese authorities are said to have secured the suspects for investigation. The Japanese consulate has requested local authorities to prevent recurrence and share information to ensure the safety of Japanese citizens.” The victimized student, a male elementary school student attending a local Japanese school, was reportedly stabbed by an assailant on their way to school.
Shandong Province is an area where many Japanese high-tech companies have a presence. In a previous incident in June, a Japanese woman and her preschool-aged son were injured when a Japanese man, trying to protect them, was fatally wounded during a knife attack on a group of Japanese residents, including children, in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
The Chinese female guide on the school bus, Hu Yu Ping, who was injured while protecting the Japanese children, succumbed to her injuries during treatment for severe wounds.
