[Exclusive] The People Power Party Recommends 5 Directors for the North Korean Human Rights Foundation… “Should Recommend Candidates from the Democratic Party”

‘, ‘It has been confirmed that the ruling party has recommended 5 members for the North Korean Human Rights Foundation board.’,

, ‘A source from the ruling party stated in a phone call with KBS today (19th) that they have recommended 5 members for the North Korean Human Rights Foundation board as part of the ruling party’s quota. The recommended individuals are ▲Kim Tae-hoon, Lawyer and Representative of the Hyundae Law Firm ▲Je Sung-ho, Professor at Chung-Ang University Law School ▲Kim Sung-min, CEO of Free North Korea Broadcasting ▲Hong Sung-pil, Director of Unification and Sharing ▲Kim Il-ju, Co-Representative of the Citizens’ Group for the Right North Korean Human Rights Law.’,

, ‘The source pointed out that “The Democratic Party has been neglecting to exercise its recommendation rights for years” and emphasized that “neglecting the obligation to establish the foundation as stipulated in the North Korean Human Rights Law is illegal.”‘,

, ‘The North Korean Human Rights Foundation board is composed of a total of 12 members recommended by both ruling and opposition parties, with each recommending 5 members and the Minister of Unification recommending 2 members.’,

, ‘For the Minister of Unification’s quota, Lee Jung-hoon, Professor at Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies, and Kim Beom-soo, CEO of the Save NK Corporation, have already been recommended.’,

, ‘Previously, the ruling party recommended 5 members for the board in 2022 as well, but the foundation’s launch was derailed as the opposition party did not disclose their recommended 5 members.’,

, ‘The North Korean Human Rights Foundation was established with the aim of assessing and supporting the human rights situation of North Korean residents, and the legislation for its establishment was made through a bipartisan agreement in 2016. However, due to delays in its establishment, the foundation ended up wasting over 1.5 billion won, including monthly office rental costs of 63 million won, and vacated its office in 2017.’,

, ‘The National Human Rights Commission recommended last September that if the foundation is not formed, the North Korean Human Rights Law will not be able to fulfill its original function. They urged then-Speaker of the National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo and then-Minority Leader of the Democratic Party Hong Ik-pyo to promptly complete the process of recommending board members.’,
