Renault Samsung Motors prepares strike ahead of Chuseok… “We need to produce Grand Coleos…”

The Renault Korea labor union has started a strike.

According to the automotive industry on the 12th, the Renault Korea union has been on strike since the night of the 10th. The management sent two letters on the 10th and 11th demanding additional negotiations, but they were not accepted.

Renault Korea has been continuously demanding the resumption of negotiations since the provisional agreement for this year’s collective agreement was rejected in a vote among union members on the 6th. Renault Korea side is demanding the resumption of negotiations, stating that their priority lies with fulfilling promises to customers waiting for the new Renault Grand Clio (hereinafter referred to as Clio).

It is reported that Renault Korea labor and management are unable to narrow their differences regarding wage increases related to this year’s collective agreement. The initial provisional agreement included a basic wage increase of 73,000 won and incentives of 3 million won for encouraging the launch of the new Clio.

Concerns have been raised that the Renault Korea union strike could cause disruptions in the production of the Clio. With cumulative orders exceeding 17,000 units and successful sales of the Clio, deliveries to customers have been scheduled to start this month. Renault Korea is worried that the Clio deliveries may be delayed due to the union strike.

Renault Korea plans to promptly conclude the collective agreement so that all employees can focus on producing the new vehicle, and they intend to keep the negotiation table open with the union.
