The Israeli military announced that they have rescued one of the Israeli hostages who was kidnapped by Hamas militants on October 7th last year.
According to Israeli authorities, 52-year-old Arab-Israeli Kayed Farkhan al-Kadi was rescued through an operation involving Israeli special forces and intelligence agencies in the southern Gaza Strip tunnel. Al-Kadi was transferred to a hospital, reunited with his family, and the hospital stated that his health is generally good.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called him to say, “All citizens are cheering for your rescue” and promised to do their best for the return of all hostages.
Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagiri said that Al-Kadi was rescued from an underground tunnel, but detailed information about the operation was not disclosed for the safety of the remaining hostages and the Israeli military.
Among the 251 Israeli nationals who were kidnapped in a raid last year, 104 are still believed to be held by Hamas, with 34 presumed to have died. The rest were either released during a temporary ceasefire in November last year or rescued by Israeli military operations, some of whom were found as deceased.
